On my presentation night, I got everyone up and "media dancing" to Bobby McFerrin's Circle Song Six! The activity was the most fun...the result is kind of chaotic...
Returning to Ghost Ranch (this decade) for Literally Letters! The Ranch hasn't changed much, of course, except for expanded housing, very tastefully done adobe bunk houses on the Mesa. Same light dry air, no bugs, blue skies and the same calligraphically enthusiastic students in the big room at the pavillion! elizahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07889400541982427190noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7189025477349642383.post-624008231223843702014-06-17T03:58:00.001-07:002014-06-17T03:58:54.845-07:00

This is my Longstitch Multiple Signature Artists Sketchbook class recently at the Island Arts Association Eduction Center in downtown Fernandina Beach!! Look at these proud students and their books! Not the easiest book of book forms in the world, but they stuck to it, after binding a single signature book (most for nomenclature) and binding the longstitch instructions into a slim candy box as the cover

This is a Roman Letter focus sheet handout of mine. Those serifs are tricky, and need some agile brush manipulation! So in Edged Brush Xplored, we do a lot of warm ups with flower petals, bamboo, birds, and even zebra stripes, to get students to feel comfortable with turned the edged tool in mid stroke. To the left are excerpts from these warm up handouts...

elizahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07889400541982427190noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7189025477349642383.post-24205429926723337162014-03-30T05:32:00.003-07:002014-03-30T05:41:10.439-07:00Students in Pensacola

Just returned from teaching Edged Brush Explored - where we do lots of warm-ups for tool manipulation (in this case, the brush) and then try those Roman Serifs...on at least some of the Roman caps! Obviously, flowers and zebras are more fun!
A great finale to another season of the Artists Books Series! After we learn the basic folded unit of these sculptural books, we can make two kinds of book forms. Students had a great time creating Christmas star ornaments with paste paper colored on both sides, and on to star books and a larger format album made from the same folded unit! We made the usual huge mess, but out of that came....STARS!elizahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07889400541982427190noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7189025477349642383.post-12764736770283654502012-05-25T06:56:00.001-07:002012-05-25T07:03:36.582-07:00Neuland In Color in Orlando!

I taught the Neuland alphabet in Orlando for the Central Scribes of Florida and we had fun the second day colorizing our names ( I had everyone pick the name of a person who is a "hero" to them, and we had a wonderful mix of popular cultural heros, relatives, family members, etc!) We reviewed the color theory and worked our compositions using "split complements". As usual, all we needed was more time!elizahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07889400541982427190noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7189025477349642383.post-24204757631133477612012-05-22T12:33:00.003-07:002012-05-22T12:33:56.643-07:00

I have a new librarian/educators workshop called "Upcycled Journals", focusing on using recyled materials for the covers and page of the books, using exposed stitch, multiple page binding. I taught as a one-day workshop for the Tampa Bay Consortium (librarian enrichment in the Tampa area). These book are a little more challenging, but we slugged it out, and came up with some very original books!elizahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07889400541982427190noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7189025477349642383.post-571528165445808482012-02-04T08:21:00.000-08:002012-02-04T09:09:20.157-08:00Love Letters 2012
This valentine girl is reaching for her 21st year in the Love Letters business!

Happy Valentines Day and consider hiring a Letterist for handlettering for products and packaging, customized logos and custom alphabets, calligraphic paintings and sculptures, teaching lettering, wordpainting and the bookarts.

And Thank You those who gave me a call in 2011!elizahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07889400541982427190noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7189025477349642383.post-77830361324791408812012-01-20T04:51:00.002-08:002012-01-20T04:54:41.239-08:00Exposed Stitch Bindings for Artists Books<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 159px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrNA-pnyPRWHXxdVCt7FhlvewvXlFluG3f3VnAbyFT6MnXMsgBs_GRpINFWA4ssVrDqz9zSNZJKUBV95Af_812C6qyopGdXa7BiWm7Q20Ygw1v85IUo0KgdcFWakBCsJd7qFAq9ltmZ0s/s400/IMG_5670.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5699696461476041426" />
These are some happy bookmakers after a day of learning a rather lengthy sewing process to put together their multi-page artist's sketchbooks into handpainted covers...as interesting and varied as the faces around the room!elizahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07889400541982427190noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7189025477349642383.post-40252260023086792962012-01-20T04:51:00.001-08:002012-01-20T04:51:36.652-08:00elizahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07889400541982427190noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7189025477349642383.post-22071601436276292852012-01-20T04:09:00.000-08:002012-01-20T04:46:12.599-08:00Coptic Journals<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 100px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgra3M8Hfby5QSylt68bYz7S1WEkYy7HLFO5W1YrSezi4UyVJzrFFW2kCTEN3j1WeE1XVWOYYiY_mgBQmob4qDJNrROq34PWT99OPsAbf9quuuFipTPDKgpVWQF00fPB50PHBPVGXo_jw/s400/my+coptics.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5699694361951383618" />
These are some of the coptic journals I regularly make
to sell...and use!
